From the pioneering professional practices in the mid twentieth century – mostly supported by international teams conducting research and training local human resources –, the field has now established itself, particularly after the first generation of archaeologists graduated in Brazil in the 1970s. The current 16 undergraduate and 10 post-graduate degrees as well as the 7 PhD programmes offered throughout the country attest to the strength of this field of studies in Brazil today. </p><span style="text-align:left;color:rgb(0,0,51);text-transform:none;text-indent:0px;letter-spacing:normal;font-family:"Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;font-weight:400;text-decoration:none;word-spacing:0px;display:inline;white-space:normal;float:none;background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">
