[FoLUG] Grub e windows xp

Salve a tutti, ho un quesito piuttosto delicato:
un caro amico, dopo aver visto ubuntu sul mio portatile, ha deciso di
fare il grande passo(installare ubuntu in parallelo a windows xp).
Allo scopo ha acquistato un disco estraibile da sostituire ad un altro
disco estraibile già in suo posssesso ma pieno di dati.
Datosi che il disco in questione contiene appunto dati sorge il quesito:
visto che l'unico slot disponibile per i dischi estraibili può
contenere O ubuntu O il disco dati come può avviare windows xp senza
il disco ubuntu inserito(in cui grub và a cercare il file menu.lst?).
Magari c'è un modo per installare grub con tutta la configurazione nel
mbr, o per spostare il file menu.lst in c: in modo che l'avvio sia
disponibile.
