Vi giro questo interessante mini-howto che mi ha passato un
amico...tolgo le 2 immagini di esempio per evitare lamentele a riguardo

<pre>ovvia, un altro pseudo how-to, ci sto prendendo gusto :E
questa volta riguarda delle applicazioni piuttosto bistrattate, a meno
che non si è molto curiosi, si ha un pc poco prestante o si è usato un
WM leggero tipo il mio amato fluxbox
su ubuntu scovai la cartella /etc/X11/app-defaults
dove si annidano le conf di questi programmilli
tra l'altro qui su debian ce ne sono di davvero curiosi e perchè no
anche comodi, occhio che non sono tutti grafici ma comunque riguardano
il server X e le sue configurazioni, si puo' usare l'ottimo xman per
leggersi comodamente i vari manuali
riporto l'elenco del pacchetto xbase-clients:

principalmente uso xmessage e xpdf, questo ultimo pero' non facendo
parte del sistema base ha un'altra locazione
dunque mi son messo a leggere il man, alla sezione RESOURCES che di
solito non ci si caga mai
ed ecco che xpdf non mi acceca piu' all'apertura con il suo bianco
splendente
tutto cio' creando il file ~/.Xresources (che puo' essere anche .Xdefaults)
certo son sempre finestre sempliciotte, pero' è decisamente meglio di
prima :)

è importante che ci sia una riga vuota al fondo, altrimenti da l'errore
<stdin>: warning: no newline at end of file
la differenza tra il . e il * non mi è ben chiara
così pure per la lettera maiuscola, che in certi casi è necessaria
per applicare le modifiche il comando è:
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
puo' capitare che dopo un tot di volte che si fanno prove, vada nel
pallone e non faccia piu' cambiamenti o altro, nel caso bisogna
riavviare X, poco male :)
ecco qui un esempio di prima e dopo la cura, secondo i miei gusti
