I missed /proc/$pid/io in my previous e-mail, so it is likely that
the only thing missing is CONFIG_TASKSTATS and CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING
to be set in kernel config for our builds. This shall enable
/proc/self/io and get rid of this error.
