[GRAMPS] Foster

Ciao a tutti,

sempre riguardo a GRAMPS, ho incontrato il vocabolo "Foster" riferito ad
uno dei modi per cui un bambino può essere legato ad un genitore (gli
altri sono Adopted, Stepchild, Sponsored, Birth).  Poiché non riuscivo a
carpirne il significato, ho chiesto lumi e mi hanno risposto con la
seguente definizione.

  In the United States, if the parents can no longer take care of the
  child (i.e. death, abuse, neglect, prison, etc.) then the State will
  place the child in the care of a certified family until the child is
  adopted or can be reunited with her parents or other family members. 
  This is "Foster Care", and what that term refers to.

Avete idea di come poter sintetizzare questa definitione?  Affidamento?
