First QualiPSo Conference - Fostering trust and quality of Open Source
Software systems
Rome, 4-5 December 2007
Major Industry players consider today Open Source as part of their R&D
operations. European Community, China and Brazil governmental
organizations consider also OOS as a key opportunity for the
development of a strong Software Industry.
Nevertheless, there is still reluctance to massive adoption of OOS
development mainly due to lack of confidence. The Ògrey areasÓ of OOS
which cause major concerns to Industry are mainly legal aspects,
quality aspects business issues.
This 2-days conference will focus on the challenges that the OOS model
introduces while being integrated in industry strategies.
The conference will approach Open Source from three complementary
angles. The first part will be dedicated to present the politicians
and the industry view. The second part will be devoted to present the
status of the OOS in the world by relevant personalities at European
and world level. The third part will be completely dedicated to the
legal, business and technical issues of the OOS.
Why participate?
* Promote the Open Source model in Europe to foster the
adoption by the industry.
* Asses the opportunity of adopting OOS in IT strategies
* Reach out to professionals involved in the development and
implementation of open source software solutions.
* Share experiences about the use, development and adoption by
industry with the OOS community, enterprises, academy and public
administrations.
* Participate in next generation tools and process definition
addressing quality and trust factors in OOS according to
industry concerns.
* Understand the various legal issues in OOS and participate in
the definition of new business models.
* Take part in the creation and launching of Competence
Centers. These Competence Centers will help industry to adopt
OOS, to support industry and public administrations in using and
developing quality OOS.
Who should attend?
The conference is addressed to IT executives involved in decisions
about open source from public administrations and industry, high level
authorities, policy makers, software project managers, OSS Community
members, IT architects.
Cal for Papers
If you want to actively participate in the conference you are very
welcome to send us a paper about your view and experience about OSS
use, development and adoption. The received and accepted papers in
different thematic areas above mentioned will be presented at each
specific session to introduce and guide the open discussion among
attendees.
Thus, please submit a one page abstract describing the topic you are
interested to present. With your submission, please include the
author's name, contact information, and a short biography. Once
accepted, you should provide a short presentation about the topic in
advance to the conference (max. 10 slides). Please also include the
thematic area which the abstract and presentation is mainly addressed.
The due dates are:
* Contributions Submission Deadline: 30th September, 2007
* Notification of Acceptance: 15th October, 2007
* Presentation Submission Deadline: 15th November, 2007
