Ho avuto anche io lo stesso problema.
Hai due soluzioni:

1) non usare ramdisk
2) aggiungere "ramdisk_size=4132" ai parametri del kernel

Se hai creato il kernel con genkernel, fai un cut'n'paste dei parametri  
consigliati nel tuo grub.conf
