A me invece non perplime affatto: SUN è sempre stata dalla parte degli
standard aperti (tanto per fare dei nomi: nfs, nis, nis+ sono stati
ideati in SUN), ed ha sempre spinto il software libero, anche in tempi
non sospetti: una decina o più di anni fa John Ousternhout (o spelling
simile) è stato pagato per molto tempo da SUN per sviluppare la sua
creatura: tcl, SUN ha comprato star division (o quello che era) e ha
mantenuto star office gratis e creato openoffice (libero), java è loro
(ok, forse questo è un neo di SUN, ma nessuno è perfetto) che prima
aveva una licenza forse non libera, ma ora è GPL, i sorgenti di Solaris
sono diventati liberi, così come quelli del migliore filesystem per
applicazioni critiche ZFS, SUN ha acquisito lustre per continuare lo
sviluppo del filesystem di clustering, paga persone del calibro di Ian
Murdock cofondatore di Debian attualmente e di Josh Berkus capo di
Postgres (quindi buon per Postgres in questo caso suona un po'stonato),
addirittura SUN sponsorizza il progetto OpenSPARC per sviluppare il
primo processore libero al mondo, più aperti di così.
