[Tech] casini su X di un newbie

Ciao :)

         cercando di aggiornare la mia 7.2mandrake un po' per volta senza 
aspettare le varie riviste ho fatto casino.
         Andando a ricompilare il kernel 2.2.19mdk megapatchato scaricato 
da un mirror cooker mdk(stavo su un kernel2.219 liscio gia' ricompilato, 
kde 2.1.1beta in kconsole) , durante credo  make bzImage  (mi sembrava che 
fosse in /char) dato che uso il &&, e' andata in segmfault kconsole ed e' 
krashata.
         Rebootto la linuxbox (init5), e mentre lancia X mi da sto' errore:

(II) XINPUT: adding extended input device "Mouse1"  (type:MOUSE)
Could not init font path element unix/:-1, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not not open default font 'fixed'

When reporting a problem related to a crash sever, please send ....

X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shoutdown)
switching back to runlevel 3

         Il significato letterale e' abbastanza chiaro, ma :
1) e' un problema di path ??  ... e come risolverlo ???
2) e' un problema di font non installati ?
3) e' un altro tipo di problema ?

     mi potete dare lumi ?
