[Tech] errore java VM

Salve a tutti,
ho appena installato il jdk 1.3.1_01 su una slack 7 (kernel 2.2.19) e 
quando lancio java mi appare uno stranissimo messaggio di SEGFAULT:

Segmentation fault

nonostante questo i programmi (mi sono limitato ad uno stupidissimo hello 
world) sembra che vengano eseguiti correttamente ma i processi rimangono su 
e devono essere killati a mano. Il javac invece non fa errori ...
Qualche suggerimento ? Ho provato a vedere cosa combina con strace ma non 
si riesce a vedere dove sta l'errore.
