Cito dalla manpage (che in genere dovrebbe essere la prima risorsa a cui 
uno fa riferimento):

 -l <maxbytes>, --limit <maxbytes>
              (Keyword:  limit) Takes a maximum octet size argument.  
Messages
              larger than this size will not be fetched and will  be  
left  on
              the  server [...]
