ntop può andar bene per avere un'idea di cosa sta accadendo, ma per
un'utilizzo più "intensivo" è generale convinzione che sia abbastanza
inaccurato, e non bisogna farci troppo affidamento. ntop gira in
userspace, e dipende da molti fattori per il suo funzionamento.

Come dice la sua FAQ: "So, remember - ntop drops packets, the kernel
drops packets, libpcap drops packets and none of 'em do it the same
way. Don't bet the farm on counting every packet with absolute
accuracy and use ntop the way it was meant to be used - showing the
overall usage and flows on the network."
