[premessa: questa non e' la lista piu' adatta a questo tipo di 
 problemi. Dovresti usare la lista tech]

Non ho molto chiaro dove stiano quelle foto... sono _all'interno_ del "db"
excel o sono file esterni ? Nel caso il "db" excel conterrebbe solo i
campi descrittivi.

Il secondo caso e' sicuramente il piu' semplice (e sarebbe anche il piu' 
naturale).

Prova a vedere come potresti utilizzare l'utility "mysqldump".
Excel permette di esportare un suo "db" in formato testuale.
Leggo dalla manpage di mysqldump:

"Loads tables from text files in various formats.  The base name of the
 text file must be the name of the table that should be used.
 If one uses sockets to connect to the MySQL server, the server will open and
 read the text file directly. In other cases the client will open the text
 file. The SQL command 'LOAD DATA INFILE' is used to import the rows"
