[FoLUG]ntfs non supportato dal kernel

DEVO recuparare dati ntfs tramite GNU.
ho eseguito questo:

[root@localhost root]# cd /mnt
[root@localhost mnt]# mkdir winbug
[root@localhost mnt]# mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/winbug
mount: fs di tipo ntfs non supportato dal kernel

Come faccio ad abilitare l'opzione del kernel per la lettura dell'ntfs?
C'e' da ricompilare il kernel?
Ho RH 8.
