non hanno un nome specifico come /dev/ttyS*

Ogni volta che attacchi un dispositivo USB il modulo decide che nome 
prendere.

Esempio:
mouse usb -> /dev/input/mice
joystick usb -> /dev/input/js0
chiavetta USB -> /dev/sda1
floppy USB -> /dev/sda
masterizzatore USB -> /dev/sda

Guarda "dmess" quando attacchi il modem usb, ti dovrebbe informare di 
che porta ha attivato.
