A quick look at a 2.4.5-linus kernel tree shows:

"Input Core support --> Mouse support"

Then, also, there is:

"USB Support --> UHCI Alternate Driver
             --> USB Human Interface Device (full HID) support

IIRC, when I was building 2.4.10-ac6 the other night there have been
some changes, but should be close.  Not sure about the device name off
hand, and I'm using devfs, so whould have to look.  With my USB
Intellimouse explorer it seems pretty near automagic the whole way!  :)
