As found in BUGS, it is possible that it's a devfs bug. Currently I was
just working on the main gpm source and not on the clients.
But the strace above reports a permission problem, try to run mev as
root.

flapp:/mnt/win/windows/Desktop # ls -l /dev/vc/0
crw-------    1 root     root       4,   0 Jan  1  1970 /dev/vc/0

Look, here it's also impossible for a normal user to access vc/0.
