Hope you mean a gpm patch, right? I don't think a kernel patch is worth
pursuing, unless it removes selection code at all -- but we first need
something useable without kernel support, and only then can stuff
be removed from the kernel.

I though about this some years ago too. When I hadn't yet realized how
complicated is X selection. My patch included a sample tool to do
stdin-to-selection-buffer and selection-buffer-to-stdout.  I didn't
mess with X selection but I though it could be done; now I think it can't :)
