Fixed that issue in commit 1b1411072ae0f0b612c9659584682831a6e247fe:
AC_CHECK_HEADERS(sys/socket.h,,[AC_MSG_ERROR([Required header file missing])])
If sys/socket.h exists it is assumed to be sane. If it is insane, the
user has a broken system and thus gpm does not need to compile.
