e quindi non vanno neppure tutti i vari programmi in python tipo gnome
sudoku, deskbar applet, update manager, gestore driver proprietari, etc?

Io proverei a fare un bel:
sudo apt-get --reinstall install python-gtk=2.12.1-0ubuntu1
python-gobject=2.14.1-2ubuntu2 python-cairo=1.4.0-2ubuntu2

cioè a reinstallare i pacchetti alle versioni standard di hardy (se è questa
quella che usi)
