The RASPBERRY PI is a credit card sized single-board computer [1]
developed in the UK [2] by the Raspberry Pi Foundation [3] with the
intention of stimulating the teaching of basic computer science in
schools.

The Raspberry Pi has a Broadcom [4] BCM2835 system on a chip [5]
(SoC),which includes an ARM1176JZF-S [6] 700 MHz processor, VideoCore
[7] IV GPU, and 256 megabytes of RAM [8]. It does not include a
built-in
hard disk [9] or solid-state drive [10], but uses an SD card [11] for
booting and long-term storage. The Foundation's goal is to offer two
versions, priced at US$ 25 and US$ 35. The Foundation started accepting
orders for the higher priced model on 29 February 2012.

The Foundation provides Debian and Arch Linux ARM distributions for
download. Also planned are tools for supporting Python [12] as the main
programming language, with support for BBC BASIC [13],[15] [14] (using
the "Brandy Basic" clone),C [15],and Perl [16].
