Very nice in depth tutorial, thanks! I think this is great not only for newcomers :-).
I hope we wrote one day some networking tutorial.

Isn't it 'canonical'? (I'm not a native speaker).

Apart from that I'd appreciate to have links (to "test writing guide" or checkpatch.pl) as
I'm lazy and like to click, but thats only detail.
