Geir,

For what it is worth, I've been using Video4Linux with the more modern
PXC200AL cards. I switched when the PXC drivers had compilation troubles,
but V4L worked.

By "more modern" I mean the ones that lspci -v identifies as
Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)

I also have a
Brooktree Corporation Bt848 Video Capture (rev 12)
that V4L does not successfully capture. I have not pursued the issue
since all the ones I have used in the field are Bt878 cards.

My V4L code is not very generic, but could be a help in getting you
started. I'm happy to share. Contact me directly for a tarball.

Alessandro,

I still used PXC on a 2.2 kernel that has been running for over 10 years.
I also have a 2.4 kernel that also still works.

As I recall 2.6 did work well but broke when they did a massive kernel
rework. I would suspect the latest attempts to remove uses of the Big
Kernel Lock may also need addressing.

I am still very appreciative of all you have done for us here.

I remember you not being happy with V4L some time ago.
Is that still your feeling?
I'd be curious to know why.
Maybe we could have a direct conversation some time?

Again, many thanks.
