Press-release of the Free Software Foundation Europe
For immediate release

"GNU/LINUX-Distributor MandrakeSoft donates 2500 Euro to the Free
 Software Foundation Europe"

(Hamburg/Paris) Upon a visit of Richard M. Stallman, founding father
of the GNU Project and Free Software Foundation, in their new offices,
GNU/Linux distributor MandrakeSoft announced a donation of 2500 Euro
to the Free Software Foundation Europe, the acknowledged sister
organization of the Free Software Foundation in the United States.

"We thank MandrakeSoft for this donation as it will allow us to cover
the legal expenses coming up in January.", says Georg C. F. Greve
on behalf of the FSF Europe. "We hope to establish a good and cooperative
relationship for future activities on behalf of Free Software and
GNU/Linux."

The Free Software Foundation Europe is currently in creation and it is
planned to take up work in Germany, France, Sweden and Italy within
the first quarter of 2001. Other countries like England, Belgium,
Holland and Spain are to follow shortly thereafter.

About the FSF Europe:

Among the tasks of the Free Software Foundation Europe will be the
coordination of Free Software initiatives throughout Europe, providing
infrastructure for Free Software projects and especially the GNU Project
and providing a competence-center for politicians and the press.

At the moment a group consisting of the original four Bernhard Reiter,
Peter Gerwinski and Werner Koch as well as Georg C. F. Greve, all
well-known authorities on the Free Software field, has been joined by
Frederic Couchet (well known for his work with April in France), Jonas
=D6berg (a Free Software evangelist from Sweden) and Alessandro Rubini
(very active in the Italian Free Software community) in the core
planning team. Together with a lot of dedicated volunteers who have
joined this group on the mailing lists we will see to it that the
spirit of Free Software will be strengthened and upheld in Europe.

(Hamburg/Paris) Der GNU/Linux-Distributor MandrakeSoft gab am
20. Dezember bekannt, die anerkannte Schwesterorganisation der Free
Software Foundation in Europa mit 2500 Euro zu unterst=FCtzen. Anla=DF war
der Besuch der neuen B=FCror=E4ume von MandrakeSoft in Paris durch den
Gr=FCndervater des GNU Projekts und der Free Software Foundation,
Richard M. Stallman.

"Wir danken MandrakeSoft f=FCr diese Spende, da sie uns erlauben wird,
die juristischen Kosten abzudecken, die im Januar auf uns zukommen
werden", betont Georg C. F. Greve, Sprecher der FSF Europe. "Wir
hoffen auch f=FCr die Zukunft auf ein gutes und kooperatives Verh=E4ltnis
f=FCr Aktivit=E4ten auf dem Gebiet Freier Software und GNU/Linux."

Die Free Software Foundation Europe befindet sich momentan im Aufbau,
und es ist geplant, innerhalb des ersten Quartals 2001 in Deutschland,
Frankreich, Schweden und Italien die Arbeit aufzunehmen. Andere L=E4nder
wie z.B. England, Belgien, Holland und Spanien sollen kurz darauf
folgen.

=DCber die FSF Europe:

Die Aufgaben der Free Software Foundation Europe werden u.a. darin
bestehen, Initiativen f=FCr freie Software in Europa zu koordinieren,
Infrastruktur f=FCr Freie-Software-Projekte und speziell das GNU-Projekt
bereitzustellen sowie ein Kompetenzzentrum f=FCr die Politik und die
Presse aufzubauen.

Eine internationale Gruppe ist zur Zeit dabei, die Planung f=FCr das
weitere Vorgehen auszuarbeiten. Die urspr=FCnglichen vier Mitglieder,
Bernhard Reiter, Peter Gerwinski, Werner Koch und Georg C. F. Greve,
sind bekannte Kapazit=E4ten auf dem Gebiet der Freien
Software. Inzwischen wurde die Gruppe durch Frederic Couchet
(wohlbekannt durch seine Arbeit f=FCr April in Frankreich), Jonas =D6berg
(ein anerkannter Vertreter Freier Software in Schweden) und Alessandro
Rubini (der in der italienischen Free Software Community sehr aktiv
ist) verst=E4rkt. Gemeinsam mit einer gro=DFen Zahl engagierter
Freiwilliger auf Mailinglisten wird diese Gruppe die Prinzipien der
Freien Software in Europa in der europ=E4ischen =D6ffentlichkeit
vertreten.

attivta che svolgeremo per il Software Libero e per GNU/Linux."

Stiamo creando la Free Softwre Foundation Europea, e prevediamo di
essere operativi in Germania, Francia, Svezia e Italia entro il primo

La FSF Europea:
