Me he tomado la libertad de contactarlos como miembro del grupo
de usuarios Linux del Uruguay (Uylug), para invitarlos a
participar en un evento internacional sobre software libre que
se realiza anualmente en Uruguay durante el mes de noviembre.

Uno de los objetivos del evento es el de crear o fortalecer los
lazos existentes entre las distintas comunidades de
usuarios/desarrolladores de software libre del mundo, brindando
una oportunidad excepcional para ello.

Aquellos de Uds. que deseen participar m=E1s activamente en el
evento, haciendo una presentaci=F3n sobre un tema relacionado,
lean el "Llamado a Ponenecias" que se encuentra a
continuaci=F3n.

I am contacting you as a member of the uruguayan Linux users
group (Uylug), to invite you to an international event about
free software that takes place yearly in Montevideo during the
month of November.

One of the event's objectives is to create or strengthen the
tights between different users and developers communities of
free software around the world, giving an exceptional
opportunity for this.

Those of you who'd like to participate more actively in the
event by giving a speach, please read the "Call for Papers" in
the section below.

      4tas JORNADAS REGIONALES SOBRE SOFTWARE LIBRE
LLAMADO A PONENCIAS PARA EL 2do. TALLER SOBRE SOFTWARE LIBRE

Ponencias y presentaciones est=E1n siendo aceptadas para el 2do.
Taller sobre Software Libre a ser realizado en el Hotel Radisson
Victoria Plaza en Montevideo - Uruguay, durante los d=EDas 6, 7
y 8 de Noviembre del 2003. Todo el material deber=E1 ser enviado
por email a: jornadas-ponencias@uylug.org.uy antes del 6 de
agosto del 2003.

ACERCA DE LAS JORNADAS REGIONALES DE SOFTWARE LIBRE

En los =FAltimos a=F1os hemos asistido a la consolidaci=F3n del
software libre m=E1s all=E1 de sus feudos tradicionales -- como
el acad=E9mico --extendi=E9ndose al =E1mbito de la empresa, las
administraciones p=FAblicas y el conocimiento de los usuarios de
software en general. Podr=EDa decirse que uno de sus retos
actuales es precisamente no defraudar las altas expectativas que
la sociedad tiene depositadas en =E9l.

Las Jornadas Regionales sobre Software Libre son un foro en el
que la comunidad del software libre, incluyendo desarrolladores,
promotores, responsables de TIC, investigadores y usuarios
pueden poner en com=FAn sus logros, necesidades y opiniones.

Pretende tambi=E9n ser un medio a traves del cual difundir la
cultura del software libre en la sociedad.

CONTRIBUCIONES

Son bienvenidos art=EDculos que versen sobre software libre,
GNU/Linux, etc, en alguna de las siguientes categor=EDas (pero
no exclusivamente):

- Descripci=F3n de proyectos de c=F3digo abierto en curso,
especialmente desde sus equipos de desarrollo.
- Descripci=F3n de proyectos software que usen de manera
significativa o novedosa software libre para su desarrollo.
- Experiencias de implantaci=F3n del software libre.
- Iniciativas encaminadas a promover, facilitar o difundir los
desarrollos de c=F3digo abierto: redes, documentaci=F3n,
proyectos institucionales, etc.
- Trabajos que analicen el c=F3digo abierto desde la perspectiva
de la Ingenier=EDa del Software: relaci=F3n con m=E9todos giles
(XP, etc), implantaci=F3n de m=E9todos y t=E9cnicas en los
proyectos de c=F3digo abierto, certificaci=F3n, etc.
- Estudio de aspectos sociales, =E9ticos, legales o econ=F3micos
del software libre: patentes, seguridad, competencia, etc.
- Experiencias de contenido abierto en general (no
necesariamente software).

Los art=EDculos enviados al II Taller sobre Software Libre deben
describir trabajo original y no haber sido publicados
previamente. La longitud m=E1xima del articulo completo debe ser
de 10 p=E1ginas (incluyendo figuras y bibliograf=EDa). Los
formatos preferidos son OpenOffice Writer, HTML,
PDF y TXT. Los art=EDculos deber=E1n estar redactados en
espa=F1ol o, excepcionalmente, en ingles o portugues. Los
trabajos recibidos ser=E1n revisados y seleccionados por el
comit=E9 de programa del II Taller sobre Software Libre. Los
autores deber=E1n expresar claramente cual es la
contribuci=F3n original de su trabajo y compararlo adecuadamente
con trabajo ya existente. Se valorar=E1 el esfuerzo por
presentar el contenido del art=EDculo de una manera que lo haga
accesible a una audiencia lo m=E1s amplia posible. Los
art=EDculos aceptados ser=E1n distribuidos de acuerdo
con la licencia GFDL (GNU Free Document License).

Trataremos de facilitar los requerimientos de los presentadores.
En aquellos casos en los que no se puedan conseguir equipos
especiales, se espera que el presentador provea dicho hardware
y/o software. Tambi=E9n se espera que cada presentador use su
propio laptop en la presentaci=F3n.

REMUNERACION

La participaci=F3n en las 4tas Jornadas Regionales sobre
Software Libre es completamente honoraria, tanto para los
presentadores como para quienes la organizan, por lo tanto no
existe remuneraci=F3n econ=F3mica alguna.

REQUISITOS DE LOS PRESENTADORES

Por favor incluir la siguiente informaci=F3n junto con su
contribuci=F3n:

1. T=EDtulo de la ponencia o presentaci=F3n.
2. Direcci=F3n de email *Y* n=FAmero telef=F3nico.
3. N=FAmero de acompa=F1antes.
4. Breve biograf=EDa del presentador.

2nd URUGUAYAN WORKSHOP ON FREE SOFTWARE CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers and presentations are being accepted for the 2nd
Uruguayan Workshop on Free Software, to be held at Radisson
Victoria Plaza Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay from November 6th to
8th. Please email your submissions to: 
jornadas-ponencias@uylug.org.uy, submissions will be
accepted until Ausgust 6th 2003.

ABOUT THE URUGUAYAN WORKSHOPS ON FREE SOFTWARE

During the last years we attended to the consolidation of the
the free software beyond its traditional fields --like the
academic one-- extending its scope to business, state
administrations and the knowledge of the general software users.
It could be say that one of its current challenges is precisely
not to dissapoint the high expectations society bears on it.

The Uruguayan Workshop on Free Software is a forum in which
the free software's community, including developers, promotors,
researchers and users can put together their achievements,
needings and opinions.

It also pretend to be a medium of promoting the free software
culture in the society.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

All papers about free software, GNU/Linux, etc., in the
following categories (but not excluyent) are welcome:

-Descriptions of free software proyects in development,
specially from its development teams.
-Description of software proyects that use in a significant or
innovative way free software for its development.
-Experiencies of free software implantation.
-Initiatives to promote or facilitate open source developments:
networks, documentations, institutional proyects, etc.
-Works that analice the open source from the software
engineering perspective: relation with giles' methods (XP,
etc.), implantation of methods and tecnics in the proyects of
open source, certification, etc.
-Studies of the social, ethic, legal or economic aspects of free
software: patents, security, competence, etc.
-Experiences of open content in general (not necesarily about
software)

Papers should describe an original work and have not been
published before. The maximum length of the paper is 10 pages
(including pictures and bibliography). The prefered formats are:
TXT, OpenOffice Write, HTML and PDF. The papers must be writen
in Spanish, English or Portuguese.
All received papers will be reviewed and selected by the
programation comitee. The authors must clearily express which is
the original contribution of they work, and adecuately compare
it with already existing works. The effort to present the paper
content in a way that makes it accesible to the wider audience
possible will be highly valorated. The papers accepted will be
distributed in acordance with the GFDL license (GNU Free
Document License).

We will try to facilitate speakers' requests. In cases where we
cannot guarantee special equipment the speaker is expected to
supply hardware and/or software. Each speaker is also expected
to bring their own laptop to display their presentation.

REMUNERATION

The participation in the 4th Uruguayan Workshop on Free Software
is honorary, both for the speakers and for the organizators, so
there is no economical remuneration.

SPEAKERS REQUIREMENTS

Please include the following information with your submission:

1. What title you are submitting your paper under.
2. A valid e-mail address AND telephone number where you can be
reached.
3. Number of people that will be presenting.
4. A brief biography on why you are qualified to speak on your
topic.
5. If you are speaking under a company name, please specify for
which company you work.
