[gpm] gpm-1.99.2.2

Hello!

While gpm-1 is going with minor changes to gpm-1.20.3, gpm-2
development is still open and thus I continued to clean up code:

In 1.99.2.2 I began to splitoff it, there should not be more problems
then in 1.20.3pre4, but you can test out yourself:
