Secondo me ci pò stare bene una ubuntu minimale che con 32 mb di ram si 
installa (mandrake ne richiedeva 128 già qualche di anno fa). Poi ci si 
aggiunge X e un wm leggero leggero(tipo twm, vtwm, uwm o al limite 
fluxbox o wmaker che però sono già più pesantini), risultato garantito...
Meglio se ti accontenti del Latex o al massimo di ted per scrivere 
documenti formattati.
Firefox temo non giri, un browser leggero(links, dillo).
Un file manager (se ne usi) leggero: mc o cmq testuali al massimo emelfm 
o rox (forse).
In somma con 32 Mb di ram non si può certo scialare...

64 Mb di ram vanno, 128 sono meglio, su 32 non si sbilanciano :)
