Ammetto di non averli nemmeno controllati. Sono lì da un bel po' di
tempo e credevo fossero a posto. Piccolo giro di glossario da
www.physicalgeography.net invece che dal sito suggerito.

Ice Pellets 

Type of precipitation. Ice pellets or sleet are transparent or
translucent bits of frozen water with a diameter less than 5
millimeters. To form, these pellets require an environment where
raindrops develop in an atmosphere with a temperature above freezing and
then fall into a lower layer of air with temperatures below freezing. In
the lower layer of cold air the raindrops freeze into small ice pellets.
Normally, to provide temperatures above freezing in the atmosphere above
a colder atmospheric layer, an upper air temperature inversion, is
required.

Hail 

Hail is a destructive form of precipitation that is 5 to 190
millimetersControllo  in diameter. The large downdrafts in mature
thunderstorm clouds provide the mechanism for hail formation. Hailstones
normally have concentric shells of ice alternating between those with a
milky appearance and those that are clear. The milky white shells,
containing bubbles and partially melted snowflakes, correspond to a
period of rapid freezing, while the clear shells develop as the liquid
water freezes much more slowly.

Thunderstorm 

A storm several kilometers in diameter created by the rapid lifting of
moist warm air which creates a cumulonimbus cloud. Thunderstorms can
have the following severe weather associated with them: strong winds;
hail; lightning; tornadoes; thunder; and heavy rain.

Note.

Vada per "Ice pellets" <-> "Nevischio", ma che senso hanno "Ice pellet
storm" e "Showers of ice pellets"? "Tempesta di nevischio" e "Rovesci di
nevischio" ?????
