And I've dug out the ChangeLog which says:

2001-10-19  Jens Petersen  <petersen@redhat.com>

        * lib/autoconf/programs.m4 (AC_PROG_AWK): Prefer gawk to mawk.
        * doc/autoconf.texi (Particular Programs): Likewise.


So you'll need a newer one than that I think....

What's mawk to Solaris anyway? Let's see:

no mawk in /bin /usr/bin /progs/SUNWspro/bin /opt/gnu/usr/local/bin /apps/jdk1.2/bin /usr/ucb /usr/sbin /usr/ccs/bin /etc /usr/local/bin /opt/sfw/bin

So I don't know if this really helps.
