Well, currently, the whole first 2MB of memory is marked as dead.

Frankly, would anyone object if I committed a patch to only mark as dead
this little bit?

Using the usual i386 keymaps should work to begin with.
Then you can add the proper AltGr combinations to emulate wince behaviour.
I suppose I'll write a french keymap...
